In addition to a robust Recreational Little League Program, Colonie offers more competitive baseball for those who are interested. Colonie All Stars and Colonie Travel are teams created through tryouts, and at an additional cost, that provide the select group of kids with
competitive baseball games in the Capital Region and beyond.

Travel Baseball

Colonie Little League offers Travel Baseball for 7U through 12U during the Fall and Spring Seasons.

Rules and Age Cut Off:

Colonie Travel participates in the Empire State Baseball League (ESBL), which follows Cal Ripken Rules instead of Little League Rules. This means game rules may differ from Rec Game rules.  While the age cut off for Cal Ripken is based on May 1st, teams are usually formed based on the Little League cut off of August 31st.  Some exceptions may apply and will be considered during the tryout process.  All tryouts for Travel Teams are posted on the Colonie Little League website and Facebook page.

Commitment

Tryouts for travel teams are typically held in September, with practices starting in January or February of the following year.  Games are held on Fridays and/or Sundays which does not conflict with Little League Recreation games. There are two separate seasons

Spring (April-June) Players must participate on a Colonie Little League Rec Team during the Spring season.

Fall (September-October) Players are not required to participate on a Colonie Little League Rec team during the Fall season

While commitment to a team is typically for a full year, it is understood that a child may choose to participate in an alternate fall sport.  When this occurs, teams might have openings in the fall for additional players.  Tryouts to fill these spots occur in August.

During home games, families are required to volunteer at the concession during their child's game on a rotating schedule with other player families. This helps to cover operating costs that incur during a game.

The cost to be on the team is determined by the team manager and varies by team. Fundraising may be done prior to or during the season to offset the costs.

All Stars

Colonie Little League has a long history of being Sectional and State Champions! Colonie Little League holds tryouts to select players for 7u through 12u to participate in the All Star teams.

How long is the season?

Try outs are held in May for the All Star teams. Once selected, players typically have practice during the month of June to prepare for competition.  Fundraising opportunities are often coordinated to offset the cost to join the team. District competition begins the last week of June and often goes until the middle of July. All teams will have their highest level of competition around the middle of July, which concludes their season. The only exception is 12U, which if the team wins states, they have the opportunity to continue onto Regionals and possibly the World Series.

Colonie Little League Road to the World Series:

District: 14 Albany and Rensselaer County (final level of competition for 7U, 8U and 9U)
Section: 2 South
State: NY (final level of competition for 10U and 11U)
Region: Metro (CT, NJ, NY, RI)

12u Teams that win the regional tournament are then invited to participate in the World Series playoffs.
