10 Year Old All Stars

7/27/2009

Tonight was the night that Colonie just ran out of innings.  The kids from Colonie had a gutty performance that just ran out of time.  Josh Paszkowski showed everyone in the district that he came to play.  He got handed the ball with bases loaded and no outs in the first inning.  Josh just threw three straight strike outs to retire the side and put a goose egg up on the score board. Josh pitched the rest of the game holding Pine Bush to 1 earned run.

Our hitters hit the stuffing out of the ball.  There were deep shots to the outfield by Josh, and Taylor Pfaff.  Deep hard hit balls that went right to outfielders.  It was just one hard hit ball after another that Pine Bush American made the plays on.  The real difference in the game was not a single error from Pine Bush American, and some really bad luck for our guys.

We had 2 different runners get hit with batted balls to kill 2 rallies.  We had 2 balls take bizarre bounces on routine ground balls.  It just felt like it might not be our night.

The Colonie fans had plenty to be proud of.  Our kids battled through all 18 outs.  We saw heart displayed from top to bottom, and our coaches and team showed great sportsmanship in defeat.  In 5 District games our pitching and defense held our opponents to less than 10 runs.

We wish the Pine Bush team luck as they move on to the Sectionals, and we resolve to come back and fight another day very soon.

Colonie lost a squeeker to Tri Village at Cook Park on Saturday morning.  It was a great pitchers match up from both teams.  The good news is Colonies outstanding defensive performance moved the 10 year olds into the Championship game on Monday.

There were big hits by Taylor Pfaff, Josh Paszkowski, AJ Mazzone, Nate McCarrol and Kenny Szesnat.

The web-gem of the day came from a diving catch made by Christopher Adikes in right field.  There were 2 runners on and 2 outs when the low hit line drive looked destined to be a double.  C-Dog sprinted and made a diving catch to save the runs.

AJ Mazzone was dynamite on the mound, holding the Tri Village all-stars to just 1 run through 5 innings, he pitched the entire game in less than 70 pitches.  The final game winning runs were unearned.

All in all the Colonie 10's played great baseball.  It was a strong defensive day, and great pitching.  It was just a case of Tri-Village also bringing their ace, and knowing they needed a big win to proceed to the Championship game.

07/23/2009

Colonie overwhelmed Tri-Village National tonight at Krank Park.  Taylor Pfaff took the hill, and pitched an awesome 4 2/3 innings.  He left the game without giving up a single hit, and striking out 5 batters.  In addition to a great night on the hill, Taylor had 2 singles and scored 4 times.

The defense tonight looked tighter than ever.  The web-gem of the night came in the bottom of the 4th inning.  Tri Village had the bases loaded and 2 outs when the batter hit a low line drive to short right field.  Zack Turnbull responded like a dart and made a shoe-string catch to kill the rally, and put a hush over the visiting team stands.  AJ Mazzone was "money in the bank" at first base, making several difficult plays and almost securing a single handed double play.

Kenny Szesnat came in to relieve Taylor Pfaff and recorded the final 4 outs, he got 2 of them by strkie out.  In addition to a great performance on the mound, Kenny led the team with 3 hits and 2 rbi's.

Nate McCarroll did a great job behind the plate and came through with clutch hitting. Nate had 3 rbi's on the night.

AJ, Joey, Zack and Ricky all helped fuel the offense with hits and RBI's.  It's not an easy thing to score 11 runs in 4 innings against an all-star defense.  Our 10 year old wrecking crew left the fans with hoarse voices because there was so much to cheer about.

This was a great all around performance by the 10 year old all-stars.  They only had 2 strike outs on the night, and were able to put the ball in play time after time.  They were sharp on the base paths and defeated a very stong Tri Village team.

The final game of pool play will be played at Cook Park at 8pm on 7/24/2009.  We will be proud to be backed by the most passionate fans in District 13, and continue our quest to bring the trophy home.

07/19/2009 Colonie came to play with the bats roaring and a perfect defensive performance.  Young thrower Josh Paszkowski went the distance on the mound and recorded 6 strike outs.  It was a great offensive day for AJ Mazzone, Taylor Pfaff and Josh Paszkowski. Nate McCarrol made some key stops behind the plate, and Zack Turnbull made2 Bazooka throws from right field to get lead runners out at 3rd base.  It was an exciting brand of defensive baseball.

07/18/09  Colonie 10s take one from Pine Bush American, the 2008 defending Champs, by a score of 3-0.  It was a pitching duel until the 5th inning when Joey Lombardi lined a bases loaded 2 out, 2 run single that broke open the game.  This was a flawless game as neither team committed any errors.  Taylor Pfaff went 4 2/3 scoreless innings on the mound and Kenny Szesnat closed out the final 4 outs of the game.  Next game will be played at Colonie on Sun. 07/19/09 against Pine Bush National.  Game time is 12:00.
